The President of the House of Councilors, Mr. Enaam Mayara, met on Monday in Rabat with a delegation from the Senate of the Republic of Colombia, led by Mr. German Blanco Alvarez, President of the Colombia/Morocco Friendship Group in the Colombian Senate.
The Colombian parliamentary delegation is visiting Morocco at the invitation of the House of Councilors as part of joint efforts to strengthen relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries.
During the discussions, Mr. Mayara emphasized "the particular importance of this visit, which reflects the true friendship between the two countries," highlighting "Morocco's determination to move forward in strengthening bilateral relations in the service of common interests and promoting fruitful relations with Latin American countries."
Mr. Mayara noted in this regard that "the recent motion adopted by the Colombian Senate, expressing unequivocal support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco, constitutes a significant step in the right direction, which will undoubtedly consolidate parliamentary relations and advance bilateral cooperation for a common benefit that should not be affected by subjective and passing positions."
In this regard, Mr. Mayara expressed his "wish that the planned visit of the Colombian delegation to the southern provinces of the Kingdom could provide an opportunity for its members to witness firsthand the extent of the economic and social growth in this region and thus gain a comprehensive understanding of the reality of the artificial conflict surrounding the territorial integrity of the Kingdom."
After explaining Morocco's progress in strengthening democracy, economic and social growth, as well as its constructive engagement in Africa, where it enjoys a distinguished economic and political presence, Mr. Mayara stressed that "Morocco's ambition is to become a gateway from Latin America to the African continent."
In the same context, Mr. Mayara emphasized "the House of Councilors' willingness to make further efforts to strengthen this approach, by leveraging its distinguished relations with all Latin American parliamentary groups, within the framework of mutual respect and preservation of common interests."
For his part, Mr. German Blanco affirmed that the Colombian Senate is keen to develop Moroccan-Colombian relations in various fields, welcoming the feelings of friendship expressed by the Kingdom of Morocco towards Colombia.
After presenting some data related to internal political developments in Colombia, particularly regarding its foreign relations, Mr. German Blanco stated that "the position of the current Colombian government regarding the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom has harmed Colombia's interests, as it has aligned itself with a separatist and terrorist movement not recognized by the United Nations," he lamented.
Mr. German Blanco took this opportunity to present a copy of the Colombian Senate's motion in support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco, emphasizing that "the Senate, as the direct representative of the Colombian people, will continue to promote bilateral relations between Morocco and Colombia and to highlight the numerous bonds they share."
These discussions took place in the presence of the First Vice-President of the House of Councilors, Mr. Mohamed Hanin, the President of the Morocco-Colombia Friendship Group in the House, Mr. Jamal Al Ouardi, and the Secretary-General of the House, Mr. El Assad Zerouali.
The Colombian Senate delegation includes, in addition to Mr. German Blanco, Mr. Jose Luiz Perez Oyuela and Ms. Paola Holguin Moreno, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
