Parliamentary diplomacy

— Friday 7 June 2024 —

The parliamentary diplomatic activity constitutes one of the main roles and priorities of the House of Councillors as a pivotal front to defend the strategic causes of our country, including the national cause, as well as the strengthening and consolidation of partnership and cooperation relations with the various components of the international parliamentary system.

Since its creation, the House of Councillors has been able to enrich its diplomatic work and put in place a renewed dynamism and qualitative initiatives, which have enabled it to achieve diplomatic gains, both at the level of unions and regional, continental and international parliamentary associations in different regions of the world.

This work is done through official mutual visits, receptions and working and courtesy meetings, as well as through the permanent participation of the sections and national delegations of the House of Councillors in regional, continental and international parliamentary events and bodies, or through the organization and hosting of conferences and seminars, by implementing and following the initiatives and strategic guidelines included in the speeches of His Majesty the King as basic references for the advancement of parliamentary diplomatic action, and through a multidimensional work joining vigilance, proactivity, efficiency and complementarity with the different actors of the national diplomatic system.

The diplomatic action of the House of Councillors is also based on the objectives defined in its action plans, which it sets at the beginning of each legislature, as well as on the strategic plans in the field of parliamentary diplomacy and foreign relations, especially those related to the consolidation of positions in regional and international groupings and to opening up to various regions of the world in order to refute hostile maneuvers and defend the superior interests of the Kingdom of Morocco, and to incite positions that support the cause of our territorial integrity and the brave Moroccan initiative relating to autonomy in the southern provinces.

Within the framework of these foundations and references, the House of Councillors hosts and participates in numerous regional, continental and international forums and events. The work of its delegations in these forums is characterized by the relentless defense of the major causes of the Kingdom of Morocco and by the affirmation of the Kingdom’s position on many regional and international issues, in addition to the mobilization of support for national diplomacy in harmony with its main priorities.
