The President of the House of Councilors, Enaam Mayara, held talks on Tuesday in Rabat with the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Morocco, Alexandre Guido Lopes Parola.

At the beginning of this meeting, Mr. Mayara praised the strong relations between Rabat and Brasilia, which date back to the 19th century, with Morocco being the first African country to recognize Brazil's independence in 1822.

After reviewing the various stages that marked the partnership between the two friendly countries, the President of the House of Councilors recalled the historic visit by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Federative Republic of Brazil in 2004, as well as the promising prospects that this visit opened for the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

In this regard, he emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation through the activation of the Brazil-Morocco friendship group and the implementation of sealed memorandums of understanding, while proposing the creation of a parliamentary economic forum to exploit cooperation opportunities offered in many areas.

He also expressed hope for accelerating negotiations on free trade agreements between Morocco and Mercosur, emphasizing the importance of the Royal Initiative aimed at facilitating access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

For his part, the Ambassador of Brazil to Rabat praised the quality and depth of bilateral relations, which have experienced dynamics over the years due to conventions concluded in various fields, affirming his country's commitment to developing cooperation with the Kingdom and raising it to the level of a comprehensive partnership.

He emphasized the crucial importance that his country attaches to the Royal Initiative aimed at facilitating access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, which "confirms Morocco's position as a gateway to Africa and a platform for accessing African markets," expressing his support for the proposal of the President of the House of Councilors on the creation of a parliamentary economic forum.

This meeting was also an opportunity to highlight the role of the parliamentary institution on the institutional scene in both countries and its important roles in strengthening bilateral relations and developing parliamentary diplomacy, in addition to consolidating relations with parliaments at the regional and continental levels.
